Bird Key is regarded as one of the most prestigious communities on the Gulf Coast. It is a 250-acre barrier island located in Sarasota Bay. There are 510 luxury, single-family homes with no condominiums, high rises, hotels, offices or retail space. Bird Key has a resort feel with tall palm trees lining its wide streets, very little traffic, canal bridges, turquoise water throughout, and a staffed front gatehouse to greet residents upon arrival. ​​​​​​​Bird Key was originally only 13 acres before it was expanded in 1959. Thomas Worcester paid $25 to purchase Bird Key from the State of Florida in 1917.​​​​​​
